MARY?S FANCY--The Mary?s Fancy Home Owners? Association (MFHOA) has requested that the relevant authorities put a stop to heavy equipment dangerously and carelessly traversing Gladiola Road.
The association expressed its concerns in an e-mail to The Daily Herald and submitted pictures as examples of what the residents of the area have had to endure. The MFHOA explained that the operator of an excavator who had been contracted to do work on a parcel of land had ignored the appeals of residents to stop because the machine was damaging the road as it moved along.
The MFHOA said, ?The operator had no concern for the residents? appeal and ?bulldozed? his way through, endangering the residents in the immediate area, saying ?to take government to court? as he claimed to be ?working for a politician?s family member.?
?The MFHOA is asking the Inspection Department to have this kind of practice halted immediately and violators fined accordingly, as they continue to damage a very important main road [Gladiola Road, ed.]
?Government has been unwilling to repair and maintain this road in spite of repeated requests by MFHOA. The association will hold the excavator?s owner, the contractor and the owner of the parcel of land that is being excavated liable for any and all damages to the very important main road (Gladiola Road), which serves as the only viable link in and out of the Mary?s Fancy Estate for dozens of residents each day.?
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source explained that there were very few options for moving heavy equipment up the Mary?s Fancy hillside. Using a flat-bed truck to transport such equipment is virtually impossible, as navigation of the narrow road would become a major safety issue. There are wheeled excavators that can make it up the hill, but the nature of the excavation work on a hillside often requires tracked excavators.
The source said, ?When homes are being built on a hillside with one access, there is very little option. Perhaps the association should ask all of their neighbours, who have already built their homes, what damage they inflicted on the road when their homes were being built.?
