One person drowned in raging flood waters at Vavuniya while another woman was killed in a landslide that crashed on to her home at Ambawaka on the Badulla-Nuwara Eliya road, DMC spokesperson Pradeep Koddipplli said.
�She was identified as Mary Fernando aged 50.
He added that the authorities have already set up ten camps to house�some 2,000�displaced persons at Vavuniya in the north and Trincomalee on the east coast.�
Furthermore some 16 families had also been moved out from a village in the Baddula District owing to landslide threats, he added.�
A spokesperson with the Department of Meteorology said that the wet weather was set to continue in most parts of the country throughout the week. (LB) (DW)
