Sarah?s Holland visit hits snag as Air France flight cancelled

AIRPORT--Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams was unable to leave the island on Sunday night for her working visit to the Netherlands due to technical difficulties with Air France that led to the flight being cancelled late in the night after three attempts to take off.

Wescot-Williams was scheduled to make a presentation at Clingendael Institute entitled "En route to the autonomous St. Maarten" today, Monday. Clingendael Institute is an organisation that studies international relations. It is not certain whether the prime minister will continue her trip on another flight to Europe today so that she can keep her other appointments.

She was scheduled to have lunch with French Ambassador Jean-Francois Blarel on Tuesday morning.

Wescot-Williams and Minister Plenipotentiary in The Hague Mathias Voges had an appointment to visit Her Majesty Queen Beatrix at Palace Noordeinde on Tuesday afternoon.

Wescot-Williams was slated to meet with Dutch Minister of Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations Piet Hein Donner on Wednesday afternoon and was expected to open the St. Maarten House officially later that day.
