A vast majority of the Heads of� Departments of 15 National Universities have resigned from their posts� with effect� from today in protest against the government’s failure to increase staff salaries.
“Most of the heads of departments belonging to national universities have resigned and it has turned to be successful”, Dr. Mahim Mendis ,the spokesman of the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) said.
“The FUTA does not have any connection with party politics nor has nothing to do with the country’s present political situation, we are independent and we are requesting the government to solve our disputes on the salary revision in a justful manner.” He said.
The FUTA is concerned about a meaningful and regular monthly basic salary increase which would attract, recruit and retain the university system, he said. (MT)
