Parlatino is a regional permanent unicameral organisation comprising the National Latin American Parliaments elected democratically by popular vote. It was created on December 7, 1964, with the purpose of promoting human rights, economic and social development; maintaining and fostering relations with other geographic parliaments and international organizations; and defending against imperialism and colonialism.
St. Maarten, according to a Parliament press release, supports the core principles of Parlatino such as defence of democracy, non-intervention, self-determination of nations, legal equality of States, the rejection of threat and of the use of force against the political independence and territorial integrity of any State, and the peaceful, fair and negotiated solution of international conflicts.
