
UPDATE
Former Chairman, Upali Dharmadasa was elected uncontested as the new head of Sri Lanka (SLC) while a majority of his faction too won their appointments during the elections at the National Sports Medicine Unit in Colombo a short while ago according our team based at the location.
Former Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga who handed over his nominations as an independent candidate later joined the Dharmadasa faction and has been elected uncontested as Secretary of the SLC.
Meanwhile Asanga Seneviratne and K. Mathiwanan have been elected uncontested as Vice Presidents of the SLC.
Nuski Mohamed was elected uncontested to the post of Treasurer while the posts of Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer were won by members of the Dharmadasa faction.
Later on Monday (2), Mohan de Silva who led the Thilanga Sumathipala faction withdrew their nominations from the race.
The only voting was held for the post of Assistant Treasurer where Ajith Pasqual secured the post beating Nihal Lewke by 117 to three votes.
SLC elections kick off today
The polls to elect a new board for Sri Lanka Cricket kicked off a short while ago at the Sports Ministry.
Upali Dharmadasa leads the polls while it was reported that Mohan De Silva and his team have withdrawn from the SLC elections in protest against alleged unjust procedures in conducting the poll.
All security arrangements are put in place to ensure a free and fair election, reports said.
