PHILIPSBURG--Following the Prosecutor's demand, Judge Monique Keppels of the Court of First Instance sentenced Sandra Marlene Hall (42) to nine years Wednesday for stabbing her partner Radford Alexander Seaforth (46) to death in his Christiansted Drive home in Dutch Quarter on October 18, 2010.
The Court considered it proven that the security guard had stabbed her victim twice in his back and once in his chest. The blade entered between the third and fourth ribs, puncturing the former Guyana police officer's heart.
The judge rejected the suspect's and her lawyer Shaira Bommel's pleas of self-defence. During the January 12 court hearing, both had painted a pitch-black picture of the victim's character, claiming he had beaten and raped his live-in partner over an extended period of time.
The woman did not deny having stabbed Seaforth, but claimed that after she had come home from work that October night he had locked the door, had pulled her hair and had beaten her, while she had also been threatened and cut with a knife. She claimed she had feared for her life.
Prosecutor Manon Ridderbeks pointed to the fact that Hall's statements were not corroborated by the doctor's report on the suspect's condition, which only mentioned some scratches and one bruise, but no open and bleeding wounds.
The Judge also found the self-defence plea "insufficiently convincing," she stated in her written verdict.
