It must come from the family: Kehiliya

The Government today reiterated its earlier position, that only a family member of jailed Army Commander Sarath Fonseka could make an appeal for his release and no one else.

Media Minister Kehiliya Rambukwella told journalists earlier today, that President Mahinda Rajapaksa would react to such an appeal from the family in a favourable manner.

He said several individuals had made earlier attempts to plead on General Fonseka’s behalf but failed.

Earlier this week President Rajapaksa also said that a release for Fonseka would be considered if an appeal was made by any member of the family.

Rajapaksa made this remark during a breakfast meeting with editors of local media houses.
