Man shot, killed in Dutch Quarter

PHILIPSBURG--Police patrols and detectives were directed to Madrid Drive in Dutch Quarter at approximately 2:00am Tuesday for a shooting.

On the scene the investigating officers found a man identified as "Anthony" and said to be a national of St. Kitts and Nevis, bleeding from gunshot wounds to his upper body and one of his legs. He was treated on the scene by paramedics and transported to St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment, but he died an hour later.

According to information gathered at the scene, police learnt that the victim had been shot by an unknown person who came knocking at his door. The shooter fled the scene on foot. Who this suspect is and why this violent act was committed is still under investigation by the Detective Department.

The police are requesting that anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the person responsible for this shooting call the police and give this information.

The Police Force reminds the general public that the police tip line 9300 is operational once again for the general public to give information to the police regarding any ongoing criminal activities or crimes that have taken place. When using this number there will be no caller-ID registration. All calls are completely confidential and untraceable.

The phone will be answered by an officer during working hours and during the night hours the information will be recorded and later erased.
