Police find flintlock pistol after chase and arrest

COLE BAY--Yet another gun has been found following a chase by police officers starting in the Cole Bay area.
This time the weapon is an antique flintlock-style pistol, but it is not yet known whether the item is a replica or an original that is capable of being fired. The greyness of the trigger mechanism and of the flintlock section itself suggests that it is made of britannia metal alloy, which is often used for replicas.
The incident started following an anonymous report of several men acting suspiciously in a Chevy Spark motor vehicle without a licence plate near Victor's Supermarket on Union Road. The men inside this vehicle were all dressed in dark clothing.
A Zero Tolerance team patrol spotted the vehicle driving towards Airport Boulevard and decided to conduct a routine stop to establish the identity of the persons therein. The patrol ordered the driver of the car to stop, but he refused to do so and increased his speed. A high-speed chase started through the areas of Beacon Hill, Maho Reef, Mullet Bay and Cupecoy.
One suspect jumped out of the car in the Beacon Hill area and attempted to escape, but was apprehended immediately. The other two suspects continued in their attempt to escape from the police. Meanwhile, several other police patrols had joined the chase.
A warning shot was fired in the Mullet Bay area, but the driver did not stop and continued to flee towards Lowlands, apparently with the intention to cross the border. A shot was then fired at the right front tire, disabling the vehicle. Both occupants jumped out of the car and ran into the bushes next to Atlantis Casino. The area was surrounded immediately by several patrols, at which time the Police K-9 went into the bushes to search for the suspects.
When the suspects jumped out of the car, one of them dropped a very old antique firearm (a black powder pistol) onto the ground. This firearm was confiscated for further investigation. The search for the suspects lasted for approximately an hour and a half without any results.
As the search continued in the Mullet Bay area, reports came in that the two suspects were being held at the security office of Cupecoy Hotel, but that one of the suspects had managed to escape and was running towards the border via the coast. The second suspect was transported to the Philipsburg police station immediately.
A search for the third suspect continued after nightfall, but the suspect managed to cross the border through the bushes. The Gendarmes were contacted and informed of the situation. The two suspects in custody are G.B. and S.B., both of the French side. The small, grey suspect vehicle also was confiscated and towed away for further investigation.
