Unusual cracks in the earth has surfaced in the Salapayaru, Kuchchaveli areas in Trincomalee, Police and security forces personnel in the area said.
The Geology and Mines Survey Burea said they too had been informed about the cracks and will be sending a team to investigate the matter.
Residents said that water and sand has been erupting fromt the location in the morning. Government officials and security force personnel visited the scene in the morning.
Earlier similar cracks had been reported from the central and the southern provinces as well.
