PHILIPSBURG--Shareholder Representative of Postal Services St. Maarten (PSS) Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams is expected to decide on the fate of Director of PSS Denicio Richardson this week. The board of PSS has made its opinions clear to the PM, casting Richardson as an obstructionist who does not execute directives as issued by the board.
The PM informed the board in a general shareholders meeting last week that she should be ready with a decision this week as to whether the board should retain Richardson, dismiss him, or re-assign him within the company. Complicating the matter is the fact that Richardson has been executing his duties without a signed labour contract with PSS. He collects approximately NAf. 8,000 monthly.
The impasse between Richardson and the board has been ongoing for months, reaching what some have termed "a point of no return" when the board suspended Richardson in late 2011 for signing checks above what he was authorized to sign.
The board reportedly is contending that when Richardson was on suspension, operations at the Post Office flowed smoothly and staff exhibited an improved spirit of "team work."
One reliable source told The Daily Herald that Wescot-Williams will more than likely choose to retain Richardson, whose tenure would be guided by a strict contract with clear details about the Director's roles and duties with PSS, as well as an option for renewal pending evaluations.
