New social homes in vicinity of ring road

PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation (SMHDF) is planning to construct a number of two- and three-bedroom duplex units and reportedly two apartment buildings on property allotted by the Island Government.

Minister in charge of infrastructure Theo Heyliger announced recently that SMHDF was one of the entities that had been allotted property around the ring road.

SMHDF Managing Director Henry Lynch confirmed that ?there are preliminary plans to develop duplex homes and apartments, providing that the property is sufficient.? Heyliger told Parliament recently that the size of the 12 properties allotted around the ring road ranged from 950 to 1,000 square metres.

Lynch clarified: ?SMHDF will be allotted a parcel of land in the vicinity of the ring road close to Melford Hazel Auditorium. SMHDF is currently in discussions with engineers for the design of the infrastructure, which execution will be financed by government. Only after the infrastructure is complete can the exact amount of property be determined.?
