AIRPORT-- JetBlue St. Maarten General Manager Marc Boasman said on Wednesday that preparations are on schedule for the airline's inaugural flight on the St. Maarten-San Juan route.

The daily flights will commence on November 17, utilising the Embraer 190 aircraft, which seats 100 passengers. Ticket sales began on June 17, with fares as low as US $150 roundtrip, which includes all taxes.

"With our tremendous growth in SJU [San Juan, ed.], and us now being the largest carrier operating there, this service presents many opportunities for our visiting tourists and local population alike. Passengers will now be able to connect to Florida cities such as Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa as well Jacksonville, all via San Juan. This also provides connection possibilities to JFK [John F. Kennedy International Airport, ed.] New York, Boston and Connecticut and Santo Domingo as well," said Boasman.

He added that JetBlue also would be starting service to both St. Thomas and St. Croix this November, enabling connectivity to those destinations.

JetBlue also reported record second quarter operating revenues this week of $1.2 billion. JetBlue's President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dave Barger said, "Thanks to the hard work of our outstanding crew members, we reported another profitable quarter with record revenues."

"Our targeted growth strategy in Boston and the Caribbean continues to pay off and help mitigate the significant pressure from high fuel costs," he said.

Puerto Rico is a popular shopping destination for St. Maarten travellers, who were left with only InselAir servicing the route after American Eagle pulled out earlier this year.
