John Larmonie Centre robbed

LONG WALL ROAD--John Larmonie Centre, which houses Imbali Centre for Creative Movement and Motiance Dance School, was broken into early Sunday morning and the culprits carried away an estimated US $10,000 in stolen goods.

"We are devastated," said Imbali Centre Director Clara Reyes, who noted that this was the second time her establishment had been broken into and her entire sound system stolen.

She said John Larmonie Centre had been broken into last in 2004 and at the beginning of the month burglars had taken two microwaves from the centre. This time the burglars ransacked all offices in the centre and carried away the entire inventory of the seniors who hold activities there and of Imbali.

Reyes said she had discovered the glass door to her dance studio completely shattered Sunday morning at 11:00am on arrival at the centre and had seen that the culprits had begun to unwire the electrical equipment in the Motiance studio, apparently with the intention of returning for those items.

Reyes said it was not clear how the burglars had entered. She said she had been painting in the centre up until 12:30am Sunday. The incident was reported to police, who arrived on the scene within 30 minutes. A forensic team examined the scene, took fingerprints, etc.

Reyes noted the inconvenience this incident caused for her non-governmental organisation, which relies on sponsorship to stay afloat. She said with school beginning in just a week the organisation would have to host a fundraising concert to acquire funds to replace all necessities. The sound system alone will cost anywhere from US $3,000 to $4,000.
