PHILIPSBURG--Labour and Social Affairs Minister Cornelius de Weever and Economic and Tourism Affairs Minister Franklin Meyers on Sunday called on job seekers to visit Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino's job fair today, Monday and tomorrow, Tuesday from 10:00am – 1:00pm and from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.
It will be held in the Royal Islander Room. In a press release Sunday, de Weever encouraged "all locals and legal residents" to visit the resort for the two day event. "Please make an extra effort to go out to the resort and register for the various job openings being offered," he said,
In a separate press release Meyers said the two day fair will give the job seekers the opportunity to apply for a number of openings at the resort.
Job openings are in areas of Food and Beverage, Banqueting, Maintenance, Stewarding, Front Office, Housekeeping, Entertainment, Retail Department, Security Department, and Accounting Department.
Meyers encouraged the unemployed and job seekers to use this opportunity to find a job. "When one of the island's major resorts has a two-day job fair, it is an indication that things are not as bad. It's a positive and welcoming sign. We have reasons to be optimistic. Just about every day you can read in the papers about job vacancies," Meyers said. "The global economic recovery is still fragile and many uncertainties remain. Government has been working diligently and putting into place educational pathways with other stakeholders that can help the unemployed and job seekers excel in a tough and uncertain environment.
"The unemployed and job seekers have an opportunity to find work at the two-day Job Fair. Go prepared and be optimistic," Meyers said.
Those heading out to the Job Fair on Monday and Tuesday must carry with them a resume, copy of a valid ID (passport, driver's license, St. Maarten ID card), diplomas and certificates.
