PSVE board investigating complaint against teacher

PHILIPSBURG--The board of the Preparatory Secondary Vocational Education (PSVE) section of St. Maarten Academy is investigating complaints against male teacher of "unbecoming behaviour."

Details of the unbecoming behaviour could not be ascertained. The allegations were made by several female students, said chairman of the board Van Dyke Bell on Friday. Bell confirmed that the teacher in question was suspended earlier this week.

"There are allegations against a male teacher indeed of behaviour that is unbecoming of a teacher and the board is dealing with it," Bell said when asked about the matter.

He said the board met on Friday to discuss the matter and, "to try and get some information." The teacher has denied the allegations.

Bell said, "any allegation that is made when it comes to students, we have to look into it because students are exposed to teachers five days a week."
