President Mahinda Rajapaksa today paid tribute to the Sri Lanka Air Force on its 60th Anniversary and said the nation owed its gratitude� towards the forces�� that played a crucial role in the humanitarian operation.
?The SLAF played a crucial role during the war and inflicted minimal damage on civilians while assisting ground troops,? he said.
The President�said that with the end of the war, the services of the forces are� needed to develop the country.
�President Rajapaksa was the Chief Guest at the main anniversary celebration held at the Ratmalana Air Base where he inspected a Guard of Honour.

He also declared open an�exhibition�to mark the� occasion�at the Ratmalana Air base� where� aircrafts as well as other new technology used by the SLAF is�on display.The exhibition will be open to the public for a week starting today.
