CID team to probe Puttalam incidents

A team of CID officials has been sent to Puttalam to carry-out investigations into the killing of the policeman and the shooting of civilians by unidentified persons,� Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said.

In a related development the Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ordered the Police and the army to find out the persons responsible for creating disturbances in the area.

The Inspector General of Police N.K.Illangakoon presided over a conference with his senior police officers in the area. He travelled to the scene of the incident where the policeman was killed,� but did not get off the vehicle.

�Meanwhile, the IGP at a security conference which he was presiding over said the Police should ensure that the people do not take the law into thier own hands.
