The Deputy Leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) Karu Jayasuriya has come out in defence of Western Provincial Councilor (WPC) Srilal Lakthilake who was suspended from the party on disciplinary grounds.
Mr. Jayasuriya claims that he was not present when the decision was taken to suspend Lakthilake on charges that he did not cooperate with the party’s campaign at the recently concluded local government elections in the Kotte area.
Lakthilake was suspended along with fellow party member, Buddhika Pathirana a sitting member with the Southern Provincial Council on the same charges.
Lakthilake it is reported has had several difference of opinion with UNP Parliamentarian MP Ravi Karunanayake.
