October 10 themed ?Constitution Day?

PHILIPSBURG--October 10 ? the anniversary of country status ? will be referred to as "Constitution Day," says Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams. The name refers to the coming into effect of the Constitution and country status on October 10, 2010.

To mark the first anniversary, Wescot-Williams will deliver a "State of affairs" speech on Monday and several civil servants will be honoured for their efforts, especially behind the scenes in building up the country. There will also be a church service.

An extraordinary meeting of Parliament has also been convened for Monday with leaders of the five factions expected to give brief addresses about the strides made in the past year.

October 10, unlike in Curaao, is not a national holiday in St. Maarten.
