Canada today expressed concern over the recent unrest in Maldives
The High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Bruce Levy in a statement said "While Canada recognizes the complexity of the democratic transition undertaken by the Government of Maldives, the respect for human rights, an independent judiciary, and rule of law must remain an utmost priority throughout this process”.
"All parties are urged to refrain from making derogatory or inflammatory public statements. The High Commissioner calls for a commitment from all parties to uphold the principle of freedom of expression in the spirit of pluralism and democratic values", the statement said.
