Packed agenda for St. Maarten/St Martin Day

page1a150PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten/St. Martin Day, Friday, November 11 will see various activities throughout the day, the earliest starting at 7:00am and progressing into the evening hours.

The day will be officially opened with various presentations by the island's junior drum bands and uniformed troupes and addresses by dignitaries between 9:00 and 10:00am. Subsequently there will be cultural manifestation and musical entertainment between 11:15am and 12:00noon.

There will be presentations by Dance Theatre of St. Maarten, Grand Case Cultural Association, Tanny and The Boys, Jolly Boys, Gunslingers, Ebony Steel Orchestra, Latin Soul, Percy Rankin and the Bonfire Band featuring Betty Nisbeth and Shantillia Higgs, Freedom Fighters Featuring Ku-J and NahJah, Mosaic Band featuring LaVaune Henry and Marita Blijden, Mr. Ruphy and Pure and Dread I.

The "Unity Street Parade," featuring the various cultural practices of multicultural St. Maarten will be held in Philipsburg starting at 3:00pm. There will be tribute presentations in the Festival Village from 4:00pm.

Sports will dominate the day as well with the annual St. Maarten Day run around the island between 7:00am and 1:30pm. The traditional boat race at the Great Bay Promenade will take place from 12:00noon until 3:00pm.

Moreover the day will include sporting events, exhibitions and games in the Festival Village and Little League Stadium between 2:00 and 5:00pm.
